Mr. Chook’s Grading guide

Some tests and assignments will be graded based on the percentage of correct answers.

Some assignments will have specific scoring rubrics.

In-class work, class participation, portfolio work, and homework and other assignments will be graded on a 4-point scale for effort and understanding rather than correct answers.

Assessment  (Goal is a 3 in all topics)

4 – Advanced – “Wow  or “Over and above”

3 – Proficient – “Got it” or “I am there”

2 – Nearing proficiency – “On the way” or “Getting there”

1 – Novice – “Just starting” or “Starting out”

0 – No evidence – “Did not do anything!”

·        4 = A = 100%    Accomplishes the purposes of the assignment, task, or unit. Neat, detailed, demonstrating superior understanding.   Mathematical communication is clear and easily read.

·        3 = B+ = 88%    Accomplishes most of the purposes the assignment, task, or unit. Demonstrates good understanding, less detailed.  Mathematical communication is somewhat limited or hard to read.

·        2 = C+ = 78%   Partially accomplishes the purposes of the assignment, task, or unit. Demonstrates basic understanding, lacks depth.   Mathematical communication is unclear, or hard to read.

·        1 = D+ = 68%    Shows poor understanding of assignment, task, or unit.  Mathematical communication is vague. Lack of effort is apparent.

·        0 = F = 0%    Portions of assignment, task, or unit not attempted. Directions not followed.  Not meeting the minimum requirements.
