Hello to all users of the Plains 147.140+ Repeater.

All S-Com Images used with permission.
Welcome, the New 7330 S-Com Repeater Controller is in and currently we, KC7MRQ and I are advancing in the programming of the new TOY!
Here is a sample of the MAIN ID  being sent from the New Controllers Voice. We also will have a version upload soon that will allow the
Plains Repeater Group to upload up-to 12 minutes of custom *.wav files that can be added to the 7330 Controller to be played in about
any area we would like have the Repeater or LINKS to play them. Keeping in mind... Each PORT ( 3 ) each has their Own independent Speech
and can be played at anytime. There might be some changes coming to the Plains Repeater. The Repeater and Link to So. Browning/East Glacier
or as we call it, The Cut Bank Link will stay the same. OPEN. Any Licensed Amateur is free to use the system. Also if you are interested in helping the
operation costs of the repeater and link you can send any amount you wish to do so. However. If you would like access to the Repeaters 3rd
PORT. Any licensed Amateur will have to Support that part of the system. This will insure that the system is not abused and the only way to access
the 3rd port is with Special Commands. Once a user hears the New Bells, You'll understand Fully... WHY. It is both Corey's and my own target to
make you proud to have such a nice seamless working system at the command of your DTMF Microphone. Personally, I am proud of the
Plains Repeater and I want you to be also. Also, Coverage is going to be increasing too. Another addition is coming next Spring.

Plains Repeater History:

Hello, my name is Keith Rodgers and in 1985, I at the time had the Amateur Radio Call as WB7WBJ, I am now K7KTR and back then I was an avid outdoor hunter, although thinking of it. I have never heard of an indoor hunter? I have hunted all over Western Montana and that is how I found the Pat's Knob electronic site.

I was hunting in the Plains, area and was driving along the ridge of the Pat's Knob area and with my 2 meter radio and I heard on 146.520 a conversation that Chuck, WA7ZOO and Al, N7AEV and upon learning of their locations,  I thought of how great of a Ham Repeater site that Pat's Knob would make.

I applied with the U.S.F.S. District Ranger RON in Plains, Later that District Ranger would get back into Ham Radio as Ron Wachsmuth N7VLC. The Permit was slow to come but no fault to Ron as he did all he could. There was other politics involved in getting a land use permit and finally in 1989 the permit was granted.  It is hard to believe but the permit is to be renewed this year, and that the last 20 years has gone fast. I might add, That many of the Hams that helped me tune the receiver through the years have long passed away.

Disclaimer: This is a personal note. It is not in no way a biased remark towards the 147.04 or H.A.R.C.
Equipment Here- is the only issue that is being noted from what Was and currently Is.

Some History of the MSLA 147.040 Repeater as I know it.

If anyone in Missoula or the surrounding areas cares to know now- that my repeater, the 147.140 Located in Plains was modeled after the MSLA 147.040 Repeater Yes, 04 WAS that Good!.
The Club was made up of HAMS that I liked to hang around. They were all damn good friends too. Joel KD7DK,  Many hours were sat in his basement talking to him. Having coffee with others like Woody, W7CJB.

BJ, KD7HP lent so much to the hobby that even if you were a sponge you could never absorb what BJ had in knowledge. Later came others like N7VLA Allen, Kevin KE7WR and many many more to list but not enough room. Back then we ALL worked together, Whether you were in or out of the Club for we were all Hams United for a cause.

This is a really nice Link to get some powerful information for the technical Ham.

I asked Joel about how did the Club get such a Hot Receiver as 147.04 used to hear better then Sprint's Fiber Optic's. Joel told me, That Woody, W7CJB and them, and how they all sat down and took a bunch of extra GE Transistors and they measured the beta gain on all the transistors and replaced the ones in the Master Pro with the Highest Beta gain ones. It was a damn good repeater back then. (hint)... Also, Repeater Clubs work BEST when you share the LOAD. It should not be just ONE PERSONS JOB to maintain a flock of Repeaters and just not 1 time a year. But time should be given to make sure that a schedule is maintained for checking Receivers, Transmitters, Antennas and Links and all Cables. Even the Controllers and Battery Backups.

I have also found,
That in my own 32 years of being a Amateur Radio Operator is this...

It doesn't matter if your in a Club in Missoula, a Club in Kalispell, a Group in Big Fork or you own your Own stand alone OPEN repeater system in Plains, That if  F.C.C. Part 97.1 just can't seem to apply to you because you like to (Cause) divisions by trying to make (Clique's) among our Brother/Sister-hood where Age does not prevent you from getting a license, Nor Race or Gender or Sexual Preference. That if "YOU" cannot "UNITE NOW" How do you expect to Volunteer and serve with your fellow Ham's when there is a Local or National or World Disaster when your petty differences may cause so many deaths because YOU refuse to speak or use So and So's Repeater  or talk to THAT HAM.!
