News from Gear-Up in Dixon

 We have a lot of Gear-Up activities coming up in the next couple of months.  First, we have several speakers planned to come in and talk with the students.  They will be discussing their careers and how they got to where they are today.  Speakers share their life experiences with the students to help give them an idea of what careers are available to them and how much schooling it takes to get there.

 Second, the students will be going on two more campus visits this spring.  They will go to Flathead Valley Community college in Kalispell and the College of Technology in Missoula.  If any parent or guardian would like to go with us as a chaperone, please contact me, Ms. Eichert, at school.  We would love for you to join us.

Next, the seventh and eighth graders are using the MCIS website to create their own portfolio.  This will follow them through high school.  They are also comparing both in-state and out-of-state colleges.  This will hopefully help give them an idea of what is available to them both in Montana and outside of it.  Next, they will be comparing different occupations to show what is waiting for them when they are ready to enter the world of work.

 Lastly, I have the results of the Explore Test that the 8^th grade students took.  During parent/teacher conferences in February, I would like to discuss these results with the parents and guardians of the 8^th graders.  I will be sending a note home later to explain this.  Please watch for it.  Thank you!
