Dixon School District

Mrs. Anderson’s Grades 5-8 News

Thank you to all the parents, caregivers and students for a great testing week!  The students worked very hard all week long.

Fourth Quarter begins March 21st.  Midterms will be on Tax day, April 15th.  Spring Break is April 22nd through April 25th.  There is No School.

Fifth grade math students are working their way through a unit on geometry.  They have classified shapes and angles and have found the area and perimeter of many shapes.  They will be determining line and rotational symmetry as well as surface area and volume in the coming weeks.

Sixth grade math students are just beginning some geometry and are looking forward to a break from all of the algebra they have been doing.  They have graphed linear and non-linear functions as well as determined rules for those functions.  They will begin with classifying figures and move into angles and rotation.

Seventh grade math students are beginning operations with fractions and reviewing decimals.  They will be performing all operations with decimals and fractions and simplification.

Eighth grade students are studying geometry and higher level geometric thinking skills involved in solving problems.  They will explore the

Pythagorean Theorem and its application to real-world problems.

Both science classes are looking forward to some outdoors study time with the nice weather.  The older students are studying water, how it is treated and distributed and how it can be conserved.  The younger students have finished with the Fire On The Land curriculum and will be discovering energy in different forms as well as doing some inquiry investigations.   The Art students are working on their loom beading projects.  They are turning out very nicely!
