Winter Greetings from the third and fourth grades!

As midterms approach, the third and fourth graders continue to work hard every day.  They are in the middle of studying Montana in Social Studies.  This week the third and fourth graders completed a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting the land and climate of eastern and western Montana.  They will also be looking at the different economies in Montana, checking out some of our national parks, and studying the Lewis and Clark expedition.

Third grade math keeps moving forward as the third graders work to master subtraction using multiple digit numbers.  (Example:  231 – 167)  They are also polishing their graphing skills with pie (circle) graphs and line graphs!  The fourth graders are continuing with multiplication as they practice double digit multiplication and work to master their basic facts.

Third grade reading is also rolling merrily along with a strong emphasis on making inferences, main idea, and summarizing the story in your own words.  As midterm approaches we are reminded that our winter DIBELS testing is just around the corner, so please make sure that your child is practicing his/her reading skills by reading their take home books for at least 20 minutes each night.  This testing comes right after the winter break so be sure to keep up those reading skills through the time off from school!

We hope everyone has a wonderful winter break…see you in January!
