Dixon School District

and

Welcome back to school everyone!  The New Year has been active in the 1st and 2nd grades.  I am glad to be back in the classroom with the kids and thank Mrs. VonHeeder for what a wonderful job she did with the students while I was at home with my baby boy!  Here is what we have been doing this month:

Math:

The 1st grade has been learning about numbers to 100.  They are counting forward and back and learning place value.  Ask them to skip count by 10’s, 5’s and 2’s for you!

Reading
:

The 1st grade has just finished their 3rd unit.  We are half way done with our reading program!  Right now we are reading a story about a shopping trip.  Please remember to read with your child at home, it is so important.

Social Studies:

The 1st and 2nd graders are learning about Diversity.  We have discussed our similarities and differences and how they make us special.  We learned about people, families, homes, clothing, and languages around the world.  We also studied Martin Luther King Jr. and how he worked to create equal rights for all people.
