Hello. My name is Nancy Linnell. I am writing to you as the coordinator and a member of The Book Club of Potomac Elementary School. Our book club has twenty-eight student members and thirty-two adult members. These adult members include parents, teachers, and friends of the student members. The student members are in grades 5 through 8. We meet once a month to discuss a piece of literature. I started our club with the hope that students would be interested in reading—just for the fun of it. I was thrilled when more than half of the eligible students signed up for the club.

I am writing to invite you to help us continue putting books into the hands and hearts of students. We have been able to purchase the books through the generous donations of book club members and community service groups in the Potomac valley. We plan to have a used book sale before the end of the school year. We are now reaching out to give you the opportunity to help us continue to read. Our goal for the book club is to read selections from the list of nominees for the Young Readers’ Choice Award, which is an award given by the Pacific Northwest Library Association. We will be reading titles from the Junior and Intermediate divisions.

The anticipated cost for running the book club is approximately $130.00 per month. Our projected total for twelve months is $1,300.00. Please consider sponsoring us at whatever level is comfortable for you. Your donation is tax-deductible. Thank you.

Book Club is a great opportunity for children and adults to spend quality time reading and discussing together. Everyone walks away with a clear understanding of the novel and a sense of accomplishment. What a positive experience for all!
